Keep Doing Good!
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Sometimes it feels like we’re never going to reach the finish line. We keep running and wonder if we’re really getting anywhere. We pray and wonder if we’re ever going to receive. We believe and after time passes and we face hardship doubt creeps in. We do good but sometimes it seems as though our efforts accomplish little at times. It’s easy to find ourselves asking the question, “Is all this worth it?”
The Psalmist Asaph cried out to God in Psalm 73. He complained that the wicked seemed to be prospering and the righteous were suffering. He said, “Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure.” In other words, “Based on the look of things now, I’m doubting there is any benefit to doing good!” But a few verses later he said he entered God’s sanctuary and then “understood their final destiny.” The righteous will be rewarded and the wicked punished.
As the Apostle Paul nears the end of his letter to the Jesus community in Galatia, he encourages them to keep doing good! Don’t be deceived, nothing good you do out of love for God is a waste of time. You will reap what you sow. If you sow selfishly to satisfy your desires or sinful pleasures you will reap major destruction. But if you sow to please the Spirit you’re going to reap eternal life and an eternal reward! The day will come when you reap everything you’ve sowed.
So keep doing good! Keep giving! Keep praying! Keep loving! Keep serving! Keep forgiving! Keep showing hospitality! Keep seeking God with all your heart! God is coming soon and will reward each person according to what he has done.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Keep doing good!! Sow to please the Spirit!
God, thank you for reminding me that nothing I do for you is a waste of time. I know that every prayer I pray, every moment I spend meditating on your word, every good deed done for you, every person I share my faith with, every sacrifice to follow you, it will all receive for me an eternal reward that will make it all worth it! Though we wont always reap when we sow, you promise we will reap what we sow. Today, help us live by faith that though we may have to wait to reap, we will indeed reap all we’ve sown.
